Global Update: Monday, October 11, 2010

Last week, we saw the following actions in global markets.

  • US markets had another good week up 1-2%.  The Total Stock Market is up 6.1% YTD.
  • Another great week in the international markets.  The World Ex-US and the S&P 500 are now both up 4.5% for the year.
  • Consumer Discretion (15.1%) and Industrials (14.8%) are up double the other eight US sectors YTD.  Healthcare is the only down sector (-1.5%) for the year.
  • Style boxes are all over the map right now with Small-Cap Growth (12.3%) leading all styles followed by Mid-Cap Value (12.0%).  Large-Cap Value is the lowest returner up only 4.9% YTD.
  • Indonesia is now up 40% for the year.  Greece is down 30%. 
  • Cotton is up 46% for the year, gold up 22%, and natural gas down 39.5%.
