Global Markets Update: Tuesday, May 31, 2011

As we reviewed last week's market actions this morning, we noticed the following trends:
  • The World is up 3.9% year-to-date, and oil-based Emerging Europe is up over 8%.  Yet, on the other hand, Latin America, Asia, Africa and the Middle East are all down for the year.
  • The US is up 6% for the year, in line with most of Western Europe.  However, Japan continues to struggle and is now down 8.5% for the year.
  • Mid Caps are up 9.1% year-to-date, while Large Caps are up only 5.8%.  Financials are currently the only negative sector for the year, with Basic Materials and Technology sorely lagging the market so far.
