Global Markets Update: Tuesday, September 6, 2011

After last week's market actions, here are a few of the trends that we've taken note of:
  • Over the last one year, investors have virtually made no money in the stock market, as the world's stock market (MSCI All Country World Index) is only up 1.5%.  However, some world regions such as the US and Emerging Europe have seen good returns over the last year as both markets are currently up over 6%.
  • Italy and Germany, the laggards of the G7 Countries, are down almost 20% year-to-date.  As for the BRICs, India has passed that -20% mark for the year, with Brazil close behind currently down 16.6% year-to-date.
  • For US sectors, only Utilities, Consumer Staples and Healthcare remain positive for the year.
