Stocks around the globe started the New Year off strong last week with the MSCI All Country World Index already up 2.3% this year. Some other highlights from around the globe include:
- The US started 2013 off strong, up 2.9%, ahead of the MSCI All Country World x US Index, up 1.9%.
- Latin America was the strongest region as the New Year began, up 3.3% already for the year, with the US in second.
- The BRICs also got off on the right foot, each up over 1% to start 2013.
- Financials continued to dominate as 2013 began. They're already up 4% for the year. Energy is off to a good start this year, up 3.3%, despite it being the second worst performing sector in 2012, up only 2.3%.
